Omnimed QHR viewer configuration Installation procedure (For authorized service center and network administrator)

This article explains to network administrators how to configure workstations in a medical clinic using Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to access the Québec Health Record (QHR) from the Omnimed electronic medical record system.

The solution developed by Omnimed to enable access to the QHR from the Omnimed application consists of two main components: a native application for authenticating with the DSQ key and a Chrome extension that acts as a communication intermediary between this native application and the Omnimed web application.

This article describes the installation procedure using Group Policy Objects (GPO). This is the recommended procedure for network administrators who wish to install the solution on client workstations that are part of a Windows domain.

For an individual installation, please refer to the article Configuring the Omnimed QHR viewer.

Individual installation: OmnimedQHRAuthentificatorV3.exe

Installation by group policy object (GPO): OmnimedQHRAuthentificatorV3.msi

System requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 or more (the QHR access device handed by the QHR to the physicians is not compatible with MAC OS or Linux)

  • Up-to-date Chrome web browser

  • Professionals will need to have their access device (USB key) with them in order to access the QHR even through Omnimed

  • If the institution is not using Omnimed’s billing system, we will need to receive the RAMQ institution’s billing number in order to configure the access to the QHR for the institution

Installation via Group Policy

  1. Download the installer for the native app: OmnimedQHRAuthentificatorV3.msi

  2. Create a shared folder on the network to share the installer.

  3. Create a Group Policy for users who want to use the solution. The policy must be a “user configuration” policy.

  4. Assign the previously shared installer as a Group Policy package.

  5. Download the Google Chrome administrative template. This will serve as a base template to ensure the Chrome extension is installed.

  6. Add the chrome.adm administrative template to the Group Policy created earlier.

  7. Open the administrative template and go to the Google/Google Chrome/Extensions section.

  8. Enable the setting Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions.

  9. Add the Omnimed extension by entering its ID and the download URL (from the Chrome Web Store): beaeaepcpfakieomjhcnmiondgphipeg;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx

  10. Open a command prompt as an administrator on a user's computer and enter the following command: gpresult /h gpreport.html

  11. When opening the generated HTML file, verify on the client computer that the GPO has been successfully applied.

  12. The application is installed in the user's hidden AppData folder.

  13. There should also be a registry key that tells the Chrome extension where the application is located.

  14. The extension should be installed in Chrome Extensions.

Test the connection

To verify that the configuration is successful, you can test whether communication between the extension and the application is working correctly.

  1. Click on the Omnimed extension icon in the Chrome toolbar to access the extension's utility page.

  2. Click “Test Connection”; the message “This utility is able to communicate with the native application” confirms that communication is working.
